{"id":248,"date":"2012-06-30T11:11:33","date_gmt":"2012-06-30T10:11:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paradise-in-portugal.com\/blog\/?p=248"},"modified":"2012-06-30T11:24:23","modified_gmt":"2012-06-30T10:24:23","slug":"avocets-at-salgados","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/paradise-in-portugal.com\/blog\/?p=248","title":{"rendered":"Avocets at Salgados"},"content":{"rendered":"<div style=\"text-align: left; padding: 3px;\"><a title=\"photo sharing\" href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/quinta\/7471593950\/\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: solid 2px #000000;\" src=\"http:\/\/farm9.staticflickr.com\/8004\/7471593950_affa3da339.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 0.8em; margin-top: 0px;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/quinta\/7471593950\/\">Avocets at Salgados-2868<\/a>, originally uploaded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/quinta\/\">Paradise in Portugal<\/a>.<\/span><\/div>\n<p>The Avocets above are regularly admired at Salgados and it&#8217;d be disaster if the development as planned went ahead and we lost them there &#8230;<br \/>\n<a title=\"Save Salgados petition\" href=\"https:\/\/secure.avaaz.org\/en\/petition\/Save_Salgados_a_unique_internationally_recognized_birding_sanctuary_from_being_destroyed\/\" target=\"_blank\">Our petition<\/a> has passed the 2,000 mark already, so awareness is growing of the dire threat that faces Salgados.<\/p>\n<p>This awareness has begun hitting the headlines and various articles have been published already, such as those in the Algarve Daily News, (<a title=\"Algarve Daily news\" href=\"http:\/\/www.algarvedailynews.com\/news\/6852-silves-sells-out-to-developers\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), and The Resident, (<a title=\"Algarve Resident\" href=\"http:\/\/www.algarveresident.com\/0-47715\/algarve\/controversial-project-gets-green-light\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>), and Birdwatch Magazine who have also written about it (<a title=\"Birdwatch\" href=\"http:\/\/www.birdwatch.co.uk\/channel\/newsitem.asp?c=11&amp;cate=__12328\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Almargem has also complained officially to the EC; <a title=\"Almargem's complaint\" href=\"http:\/\/www.algarvedailynews.com\/news\/6904-almargem-lodge-complaint-with-the-european-commission-over-proposed-development-at-lagoa-dos-salgados\" target=\"_blank\">here&#8217;s<\/a> a rough translation of it. There&#8217;s even been a <a title=\"Salgados Facebook page\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/SaveSalgadosWildBirdSanctuaryAlgarve\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook page<\/a> specially created.<br \/>\nMeanwhile here at the Quinta Daniela and I are writing emails to hundreds of nature-based organisations and publications and all our friends and posting blog entries on <a title=\"Birding in Portugal\" href=\"http:\/\/www.birding-in-portugal.com\" target=\"_blank\">our Birding site<\/a> and <a title=\"Paradise Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/paradiseinportugal\" target=\"_blank\">Facebook page<\/a>, so please join us in doing the same if you haven&#8217;t already &#8211; every little helps and we really are starting to make a difference!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Avocets at Salgados-2868, originally uploaded by Paradise in Portugal.
